ABS Noise
Over the last month, I've had a couple of questions from 300ZX owners about a clicking noise that occurs after the ABS is activated. The noise is reported to last for several seconds before going away without any apparent change in the effectiveness of the braking system. I'm happy to report that the noise is the result of a normal condition. The clicking is the result of the ABS actuator going through it's self-check procedure and will occur after startup when the car passes 4mph for the first time, going in forward or reverse. It usually lasts for 3-5 seconds but can also be just a single click. The noise will usually be accompanied by a momentary unusual feel through the brake pedal.
